Info: The second installment in Frank Elting’s Light series of granular instruments, Ashlight is a tool that opens up cinematic sound design and scoring in an intuitive and expressive way. For this instrument, I focused on capturing familiar sounds through unconventional methods to create textures that would react richly within Ashlight’s granular engine. This included contact- and hydrophone-based recordings, bowing and friction techniques on various objects, and electrostatic sound captures. I then contributed to preset development and produced several product demos that showcase the instrument’s capabilities.
